Umana, Sal

Sal Umana was born in South Boston and went on for his M.A.  He was a Redemptorist missionary until he left the priesthood after 25 years and married.  He practiced psychotherapy in New York and Long Island as a clinical psychiatric social worker.

Unger, Bob

Biography by Cynthia J Krieg, Village Historian

Bob Unger is a Freeport playwright, with an engineering background, established the Repertory Theater Workshop in Nassau County.  He was a World War II bombardier and a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.  Unger developed a creative writing program at Nassau Community College.  His first full length play Bohikee Creek won him a Rockefeller Foundation grant and was picked up by the Actor’s Studio.  A second play, C.C. Ryder in ‘Behind the Dunes’ was produced at Nassau Community College.  He also ran a Writers’ Workshop on the second floor of the old Hose 3 fire house.
