Eckhardt, Kenneth

Kenneth Eckhardt is a professor at the New York Institute of Technology and a news anchor and news director of “L.I. News Tonight.”  He began as a reporter in Westport and moved on to radio and TV in Connecticut and North Dakota.  In 1999, He was named the outstanding Long Island Journalist by the Press Club of Long Island.

Edelman, Deborah

Born in Freeport at Doctor’s Hospital, (but never lived in Freeport) Deborah Edelman is a writer, an award winning health journalist and poet.  She worked for various magazines, newspapers, radio stations and non-profit organizations.  She attended McGill (B.A.), where she was a political science major, and Columbia University (M.S.) and received her DrPH from the Bloomberg School of Public Health.  She joined the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Center for Adolescent Health in 2004.  Her research focuses on “the media’s role as a social determinant of health.”  She has served on various academic committees as well as community organizations that are youth related.

Edick, Patricia

Patricia (Rispoli) Edick is the author of the children's book, Willie the Dog Asks "What Am I?"  She donated copies of her book to the library in December 2023.

Patricia is a mother of two and a grandmother of three.  She and her husband bought their first home in Baldwin in 1972, and then became the owners/residents of a co-op in Freeport in 2014.  Her children are graduates of Baldwin's St. Christopher's Parochial School and Baldwin High School.  Patricia has a history of service to the community.  She served as a committee member of school-based organizations as well as the Boy Scouts of America and the American Legion Auxiliary.  Mrs. Edick was secretary for CSEA 882 when she was employed as a civil servant.   She retired as the Principal Clerk/Office Manager for the Rockville Centre Village Police Department in 2014.  Patricia is an active member of the Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA), Giovanni Caboto Lodge, Bellmore.  She currently holds the title of Immediate Past President of that lodge and is also a New York State OSDIA Commissioner of Arbitration.

Mrs. Edick is a published author of short stories and poetry.  Her poems have been published in numerous anthologies, and in the OSDIA periodical publication, "The Golden Lion."  She contributed a poem to the 2023 edition of  "Bards Against Hunger."  Proceeds of the sales for this book go to local pantries and food banks.  Willie the Dog Asks "What Am I?" is her first children's book.

Edwards, Charles

The Baptist minister in Freeport as well as Amityville from 1888 to 1893, Reverend Charles Edward’s resigned when his congregation objected to the publication of this book.  It was a spiritual rebuke on the theory of an existing Hades.  It was a financial success, despite considerable clerical criticism.  At that time, the Baptist Church was located on Grove Street.

Edwards, Guy

Guy Edwards attended SUNY and earned his MLS from C.W. Post College.  He was a librarian at the Freeport Memorial Library.

Evans, Thomas H.

Dr. Thomas H. Evans was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he was a professor of anatomy.  He also was a research professor of anatomy at New York Medical College of Medicine and Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital.  According to The New York Times, he held two positions in Cornell Medical School: assistant to a doctor who was an alienist and a witness in some celebrated court cases.  He has written medical books and many journal articles.  He mastered six languages and was an accomplished musician who held a certificate in music from the School of Fine Arts of the University of Pennsylvania.  The Freeport Historical Society and Museum is now located in his wife’s home.  He was listed in Who’s Who in American Science.
