Theory of Students' Interest

Dr. Martin Odudukudu Advances a theory of students' interest, pointing out that, in interest, a person is amid disordered objects; a condition usually referred to as problem. A person amid disordered objects (problem) feels his or her existence is tied up with the objects, and that his or her life would be going the same way as the objects if he or she fails to do the simplest of the natural task; think. Thus, a person is naturally triggered into thinking and determining the natures of the disordered objects (problem) and applying determined objects to resolve his or her situation as determined.

Dr. Martin Odudukudu further underscores the view that thinking consists of two distinct perspectives; viz. pure and objective thinking. Pure thinking called forth and engaged when a person is in a novel situation where empirical (known) objects fail to follow rules; objects are in disorder, and new objects and related rules must be determined and followed. Thinking through which one determines the natures of disordered objects is possible only with one who is self-conscious; one who can identify self amid disordered objects, think the objects in relations to self, and thus be said to a sentient (scientific) being.

Dr. Odudukudu believes that student interest must be defined in terms of students' thinking and attitude toward tasks. In fact, Dr. Odudukudu has developed a scientific teaching practice (CSCTL) based on the above theory of student interest.
