Freeport 9/11 Victims

 

Robert Fazio, NYPD, age 41

Fazio was a 13 year veteran of the NYPD.  He died while attempting to rescue victims trapped in the World Trade Center.  Fazio was posthumously awarded the New York City Police Department's Medal of Honor.  He loved cars and planned to one day open a motocycle and car repair shop after his retirement in three years from the NYPD.  Fazio is remembered as a devoted uncle.  In 2002, the Freeport Hudson Anglers, Inc. dedicated their 30th Annual Shark Tournament to Fazio and his partner, Police Officer Moira Smith of the 13th Precinct.

Andre Fletcher, FDNY, age 37

Born to Jamaican immigrant parents, Fletcher was a member of Rescue Company 5 in Staten Island and was a former member of Hose 5 in Freeport.  His twin brother Zackary was also a member of the FDNY.  Originally not scheduled to work on September 11, Fletcher was called in due to a staffing shortage.

David Garcia, Marsh & McLennan, Tower One, age 40

Garcia was a IT consultant at Marsh & McLennan.  He and his wife Deborah had two children.

Timothy B. Higgins, FDNY, age 43

Born in Brooklyn, Higgins moved to Freeport with his five siblings as a child.  He was a member of the Freeport Fire Department and at the age of 21 began his 22-year career with the New York City Fire Department.  Higgins and his wife Caren settled in Farmingville with their three children.

Michael Kiefer, FDNY, age 25

Kiefer, a fireman with  Ladder 132, became a firefighter in December 2000. He had previously worked as an FDNY paramedic for a year and a half.  Kiefer was also a volunteer fireman in Freeport.

Laura Marchese,  Alliance Consulting Group, Tower One, age 35

Marchese began working at the Freeport Memorial Library as a high school page in 1983.  Later she took a job in New York City with the insurance firm, Reliance National.  In 2001, Marchese had been working for almost a year as an executive assistant for Alliance Consulting Group which was located on the 102 floor of the World Trade Center.  Two weeks prior to September 11, she and her fiancé moved into their new home in Oceanside.
