Flowers

African Daisy: African Daisy is an annual flower and is also known as Hybrid Arctotis.  It's scientific name is Arctotis hybrida and is part of the Asteraceae Family.  Showy, colorful blooms with dark centers and sharply pointed petals make this plant a hot garden feature. Easy to grow and drought tolerant.

Ageratum:  Ageratum is an annual flower and is also known as Floss-flower.  It's scientific name is Ageratum houstonianum and it is part of the Asteraceae Family.  One of the few annuals to tolerate light shade, the most commonly used varieties are dense, rounded border plants providing a touch of rare blue to the garden setting. They are so compact and floriferous that they are often used in formal designs that need a blue color. Some varieties are white or pink, and few are tall with a loose form. Its fringed, button-like flowers are very unique and provide interesting texture.

Allium, Blue Globe: Allium, Blue Globe is a Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium caeruleum and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Blue Globe Alliums bear 1- to 2-inch spherical clusters of star-shaped blue flowers on stalks 2 feet tall in late spring or early summer. A native of the steppes of Russia, it performs best under hot, dry conditions. Great for cut- and dried-flower arrangements.

Allium, Giant: Allium, Giant is a Spring, Summer, and Fall Flowering Bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium giganteum and is part of Alliaceae Family.  The Giant Allium bears tight, 4-inch-wide spherical heads of tiny lilac blooms on 5- to 6-foot tall stems.

Allium, 'Globemaster': Allium, 'Globemaster' is Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium cristophii x macleanii 'Globemaster' and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Tall and showy, Allium 'Globemaster' produces dense 6- to 8-inch globes of blue-purple blooms on stems up to 3 feet tall. Used as a commercial cut flower.

Allium, Purple: Allium, Purple is Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium aflatunense and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Purple Alliums bear 4-inch spherical clusters of star-shaped flowers on stalks 3 feet tall in late spring or early summer. Performs well in sunny, well-drained locations and makes great, long-lasting cut flowers.

Allium, Star of Persia:  Allium, Star of Persia is a Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium cristophii and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Showy and unusual, the Star of Persia Allium's flowerhead can be up to 1 foot in diameter. Nearly 100 metallic violet flowers create a starburst-like bloom that resembles an exploding firework. Adds drama to either fresh or dried flower arrangements.

Alpine Rosy Bells: Alpine Rosy Bells is a  Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb.  It's scientific name is Allium oreophilum and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Alpine Rosy Bells bears loose, open umbels of bell-like rosy reddish-pink blooms. Grows just 8 inches tall, but spreads rapidly to form large, showy clumps.

Anemone, Japanese: Anemone, Japanese is a herbaceous perennial flower and Spring flowering bulb.  It is also known as a Hybrid Anemone.  It's scientific name is Anemone x hybrida and is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  This delicate-looking perennial is a reliable late-summer to mid-fall bloomer, producing masses of dainty white to pink to rose blooms rising above attractively lobed medium green foliage. Flowers may be single, double, or semi-double.

Angelica: Angelica is a herbaceous perennial or biennial flower and herb and is also known as Garden Angelica.  It's scientific name is Angelica archangelica and is part of the Umbelliferae Family.  A large, rank, upright biennial used as an accent plant for the rear of shady borders. Large showy and attractive greenish-white flowers appear above the foliage in the second year. The leaves, flower stems and seeds are of culinary use and the roots are used in the formulation of liquors with minor medicinal uses.

Angelonia: Angelonia is a an annual flower and is also known as Angel Flower.  It's scientific name is Angelonia angustifolia and is part of the Scrophulariaceae Family.  Resembling small snapdragons, this annual was introduced commercially in the mid- to late-'90s. Plants bear a profusion of blossoms on flexible stems and keep blooming all summer -- even if you don't remove the old flowers. Tolerates heat and damp as well as droughty conditions. Excellent for containers.

Azure Monkshood:  Azure Monkshood is a herbaceous perennial flower.  It's scientific name is Aconitum carmichaelii and is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  It is also called Aconitum fischeri.  Azure Monkshood brings showy spikes of attractive purple-blue flowers to the shady parts of your garden.

Yarrow:  Yarrow is a herbaceous perennial flower and herb.  It is also known as Woundwort yarrow, Milfoil, Soldier's Woundwort, Staunchweed, Nosebleed, Thousand Weed, Thousand Seal.  Yarrow's scientific is Achillea millefolium in the Asteraceae Family A range of flower colors, fine-textured foliage and medium height make this drought-resistant medicinal herb an easy, attractive, fragrant and drought-resistant addition to border plantings.

Monkshood: Monkshood is a herbaceous perennial flower,  It is also known as Helmet Flower, Friar’s Helmet, Wolfsbane, or Wolf’s Bane.  It scientific name is Aconitum napellus and it is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  So-named because its flowers resemble the cowls of monks' habits, Monkshood brings showy spikes of attractive purple-blue flowers to the shady parts of your garden.

Bugleweed:  Bugleweed is a herbaceous perennial flower and serves as ground cover.  It's scientific name is Ajuga reptans and is part of the Lamiaceae Family.  This low-growing, creeping evergreen groundcover is one of the few that tolerates dry shade. With adequate moisture, bugleweed rapidly carpets the ground with showy green or multicolor foliage. But be careful where you plant it because it can invade lawns.

Hollyhock: Hollyhock is a herbaceous biennial flower.  It's scientific name is Alcea rosea and is part of the Malvaceae Family.  This biennial has tall spikes of single or double brightly colored flowers. Can be direct seeded (not flowering until the second year), and self-seeds so readily that it appears to be a perennial once established in the garden.

Lady's Mantle: Lady's Mantle is a herbaceous perennial flower, herb, and it is also known as Lady's Cloak.  It's scientific name is Alchemilla sp. (Alchemilla vulgaris, Alchemilla mollis) and part of the Rosaceae Family.  Both species of this historic medicinal herb produce attractive, low-growing plants for border and rock garden planting. Flower stems arch above foliage in early June through July.

Lily Leek: Lily Leek is a Spring, Summer, and Fall flowering bulb and is also known as Golden Garlic.  It's scientific name is Allium moly and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Lily Leek quickly forms dense clumps of foot-tall leek-like grayish blue-green foliage. Clusters of half-inch wide yellow flowers rise to about an equal height in late spring or early summer, making a lovely addition to naturalized areas.

Chives: Chives is herbaceous perennial flower, herb, cool season vegetable, and is a member of the onion family.  It's scientific name is Allium schoenoprasum and is part of the Alliaceae Family.  Great for dressing up potatoes and spicing up salads, this easy-to-grow Allium’s pinkish-lavender flowers make an attractive clump or edging in flower gardens.

Yellow Tuft: Yellow Tufy is a herbaceous perennial flower and is also known as Silver Alyssum, Madwort.  It's scientific name is Alyssum argenteum and is part of the Brassicaceae Family.

Love Lies Bleeding: Love Lies Bleeding is an annual flower and is also known as Tassel flower.  It's scientific name is Amaranthus caudatus and is part of the Amaranthaceae Family.  Bold and unusual, Love-Lies-Bleeding provides a powerful garden statement with its large size and cascading tassels of flowers.

Willow Blue Star: Willow Blue Star is a herbaceous perennial flower and wildflower and is also known as Blue Star, Willow Amsonia.  It's scientific name is Amsonia tabernaemontana and is part of the Apocynaceae Family.  Delicate, pale blue, star-like blooms and graceful, upright foliage (turning yellow in fall) make this eastern U.S. native a low-maintenance beauty. Chosen by the American Horticultural Society as one of the 75 Great Plants for American Gardens.

Pearly Everlasting: Pearly Everlasting is a herbaceous perennial flower.  It's scientific name is Anaphalis sp. and is part of the Asteraceae Family.  Pearly everlastings are prized for their long bloom period and gray-white foliage. The attractive floral heads with pearly white bracts are dried and widely used in preserved floral arrangements.

Italian Bugloss:  Italian Bugloss is a herbaceous perennial or biennial flower and is also known as Italian Alkanet.  It's scientific name is Anchusa azurea and is part of the Boraginaceae Family.  This biennial or short-lived perennial has bright blue flowers that resemble forget-me-nots on 4-foot-tall plants. Because the foliage is not very attractive, it is best used in the back of the border.

Windflower: Wildflower is a Spring flowering bulb.  Its scientific name is Anemone blanda and is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  It is Short (6 inches or less) and delicate, Windflowers have fern-like foliage and bear dainty daisy-like blooms in a variety of colors in early spring.

Golden Marguerite: Golden Marguerite is a herbaceous perennial flower is also known as Golden Chamomile, Ox-eye Chamomile.  It's scientific name is Anthemis tinctoria and is part of the Asteraceae Family.  Easy to grow and tolerant of poor soils, this perennial bears brilliant yellow, daisy-like flowers from June until August.

Snapdragon: Snapdragon is an annual flower.  It's scientific name is Antirrhinum majus and is part of the Scrophulariaceae Family.  Easy to grow from seed, snapdragons have spiked flowers that mingle well in the garden. Flowers may be classic (having two puffed petals that look like stacked berets) or azalea-flowered (fringed or ruffled). They often overwinter in protected areas up to Zone 5, and bloom best in cool weather well into fall.

Columbine, Canada: Columbine, Canada is a herbaceous perennial flower, wildflower, is also known as Wild Columbine.  It's scientific is name Aquilegia canadensis is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  One of the most beautiful of all North American wildflowers, this short-lived perennial combines airy, fernlike foliage with delicate blooms sporting red tepals and yellow petals ending in red spurs. Columbine, Hybrid: Columbine, Hybrid is a herbaceous perennial flower.  It's scientific name is Aquilegia x hybrida and is part of the Ranunculaceae Family.  Similar to the native Canada Columbine, these hybrids have dainty fern-like foliage and masses of showy, spurred blooms. But hybrid columbines come in a wider range of colors, and bear larger, upright flowers, often on more compact plants.

Rockcress, Wall: Rockcress, Wall is a herbaceous perennial flower and is also known as Caucasian Rockcress.  It's scientific name is Arabis caucasica and is part of the Brassicaceae Family.  Tiny, fragrant white flowers grace this dainty, cool-season alpine. Perfect for rock gardens, the front of garden borders, and spilling over rock walls.

Goatsbeard: Goatsbeard is a herbaceous perennial flower and wildflower.  It's scientific name is Aruncus dioicus and is part of the Rosaceae Family.  Feathery white blooms rise above the airy, fern-like foliage of this tall, striking shade garden plant. Plants with male flowers have more attractive bloom, but female plants have more attractive seedpods.

Wormwood: Wormwood is a herbaceous perennial flower, herb, and is also known as Absinth, Old Woman, and Common Wormwood.  It's scientific name is Artemisia absinthium and is part of the Asteraceae Family.  Finely-cut, silver-gray foliage acts as a showy contrast in perennial borders. Scented leaves are used in wreathes and potpourris.
