1930 Census

Abel, William E.

William E. Abel, an automobile mechanic, was born in Chile around 1890 to a German mother and English father.  He lived with his wife Lucy at 27 Pennsylvania Avenue.  His native language was recorded as Spanish.

Amador Family

Eavevan (born circa 1866) and Elvira Amador (born circa 1866) came to the United States from South American in 1908.  They lived at 146 West Lena Avenue with their two granddaughters and a servant who was born in South America.  Eavevan Amador was an importer.

Arids, Louis L.

Louis L. Arids was born around 1902 in Spain and was a boarder at 206 Church Street.  He came to the United States in 1920 and worked as a laborer.

Balado, Maniel C.

Maniel C. Balado was born in Spain around 1891.  He ran a boarding house at 43 Bedell Street.  The boarders living with him were all born in Spain: John Bernardo (laborer/factory); Frank Fernandez (laborer); Ben Telde (laborer); Sccundino Canoura (laborer); Ramon Garcia (laborer); and Sebastian Costa (laborer). [Note: spellings are taken directly from the Census].

Barquinero, Marcelino

Marcelo F. Barquinero was born in Cuba around 1887.  He lived with his wife, Ethyl M., and daughter, Antoinette, at 209 Pine Street.  Barquinero was a merchant.  Both his parents were born in Spain.  His native language was recorded as Spanish.

Candamil, Frank P.

Francisco "Frank" Candamil was born around 1905 in Spain and was a boarder at 206 Church Street.  He came to the United States in 1923 and worked as a laborer.

Del Pino, Myrtle

Myrtle Del Pino was born in Mexico around 1913 to a Mexican father and a Scottish mother.  She lived with her grandmother, Lillian Gray, at the Grove Court Apartments.  Myrtle worked as a saleswoman.  

Deluca, Cleo

Cleo Duluker, a Black woman born in Cuba around 1864, lived with her husband, Vincent, at 144 East Sunrise Highway  Vincent, a White man, was born in Italy around 1867 and worked as a laborer.  Cleo's native language was recorded as Spanish and she worked as a dressmaker. [Note: In 1920 Census, Cleo’s name was spelled “Cleane”].

Echavarria, Julis O.

Julis O. Echavarria was born around 1905 in Spain and was a boarder at 206 Church Street.  He immigrated to the United States in 1926 and worked as a laborer.

Largo, Peter

Peter Largo was born in Spain around 1899 and came to the United States in 1921.  He lived with his wife, Felica, and son, Joseph, at 87 South Main Street.

Molinet, William

William Molinet, a solicitor for the railroad, was born in Cuba around 1901 to a German mother and Cuban father.  He lived with his wife, Virginia, at 203 Evans Avenue.

Gardner, Mary K.

Mary K. Gardner was born in Cuba to an English mother and a Cuban father around 1865.  She lived with her husband, William, at 350 Southside Avenue.

Grandos, Joe R.

Joe R. Grandos was born around 1903 in Spain and was a boarder at 206 Church Street.  He came to the United States in 1920 and worked as a laborer.

Heisellar, Lupee

**Lupee Heisellar was born in Mexico around 1880.  She worked as a maid for the Canilezo family at 287 South Ocean Avenue.

Nunez, John A.

John A. Nunez was born in Spain around 1886 and lived at 157 Church Street.  He was a laborer. Living with him were a number of boarders who were born in Spain and also worked as laborers: Maniel R. Caballo; Frank Ravero; Joseph A. Castro; John J. Santos; Peter F. Vilas; Frank C. Rena; and Inocencio P. Lopez.

Perez, Manuel

Manuel A. Perez was born around 1905 in Spain and was a boarder at 206 Church Street.  He immigrated to the United States in 1921 and worked as a laborer.

Paz, Bernardo

Bernardo Paz, a gardener, was born in South America around 1885 and came to the United States in 1910.  He lived with his Polish-born wife and four children at 39 Russell Place.

Rosado Family

Henry Rosado was born in Mexico around 1899.  He ran a hotel.  His wife, Juanita, was born in Puerto Rico.  The couple lived at 200 Church Street.  Living with them were several boarders: Maniel Arceo born in Mexico around 1888 (laborer); Morberto S. Jaureguiri born in Mexico around 1896 (worked in a foundry); Jose Esporza born in Mexico around 1903 (laborer); Joe Castillo born in Cuba around 1892 (laborer); Jose Afantlor born in Colombia around 1907 (laborer); and Porfino Zamudio born in Mexico around 1900 (laborer).

Velez Family

The Velez Family were born in South America and came to the United States in 1928. The family included: father Marvelano (born circa 1878); mother Blanche (born circa 1901); sons Alfonso (born circa 1913), Ignacio (born circa 1915), Marvelano (born circa 1916), Agustin (born 1917), Eduardo (born circa 1924); and daughters Teresa (born circa 1919) and Carmen (born circa 1921).  Living with the family at 134 West Lena Avenue was Elena Cingon, a servant who was born in South America around 1890.  Marvelano Velez Sr. worked in real estate in South America.

Ziehl, Othon

Othon Ziehl, a chemist at Columbia College, was born in Mexico around 1900 to a Mexican father and German mother.  His native language is recorded as Spanish.  He lived with his wife, Olga, son, Robert, and mother-in-law, Hulda Arhert (born in Sweden around 1868) at 348 West Randall Avenue.
