This guide was created to preserve and spotlight the rich history of defunct music venues, comedy clubs and other live entertainment events across Long Island. Through detailed entries featuring descriptions, photos, firsthand accounts and relevant links when available, the guide serves as a digital archive celebrating the region’s vibrant cultural legacy. Special attention is given to notable artists with Long Island roots, capturing the essence of a community that helped shape national and international music scenes. The guide is aimed to be updated on a recurring basis, as based on new findings from the author and contributions from the local community.
Curated by librarian Darren Paltrowitz -- a published author, interviewer, and media personality with familial ties to Freeport, as raised in Bellmore and now residing in Long Beach -- this guide draws upon original research and personal interviews with many of the performers who once graced these legendary stages. Select guide entries include links to these exclusive interviews, offering deeper insight into Long Island’s lasting impact on entertainment history.
The venues shown within this guide are not necessarily the only locations of this sort, but rather the ones learned about within research and/or remembered from the author's personal experiences. The guide will be regularly updated when additional authoritative and/or verified information has been provided to the guide's curator.
