Ahmet Ertegun co-founded Atlantic Records in 1947 with partner Herb Abramson and was also a co-founder of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He was also a songwriter of note, having written hit songs under the alias "A. Nugetre" ("Ertegun" backwards). Ertegun helped introduce America to The Rascals, helped elevate Stax Records through its partnership with Atlantic, worked directly with The Rolling Stones and their label Rolling Stone Records, and helped establish the Rhythm and Blues Foundation to award money to underpaid blues artists.
Specific to Long Island, Ertegun was known to have lived in Southampton, in a home he and his wife Mica designed and built. This 11,000-square-foot estate, known as the Boatman House, was located at 623 Halsey Neck Lane. A biography written about Ertegun, as published in 2011, can be reserved from the Freeport Memorial Library by clicking here.
