Paul McCartney: The Long and Winding Q&A

Paul McCartney

While Paul McCartney and his Beatles bandmates are generally associated with the U.K. -- or more specifically, McCartney's hometown of Liverpool -- McCartney has been known to spend summers in the Hamptons for decades. He reportedly owns a house in Amagansett, near East Hampton. In 2024, he made a surprise appearance at the Amagansett venue Stephen Talkhouse, which you can watch footage of here. The show at the 250-capacity Stephen Townhouse included backing from McCartney's producer Andrew Watt, who grew up in Great Neck. Some of the Nassau County Libraries resources on-hand with relation to McCartney can be found here.

Metallica: An Inside Look – PS Audio

Metallica

Metallica, one of the most iconic heavy metal bands in the world, has a notable, albeit indirect, connection to Long Island, beyond its years of playing at the Nassau Coliseum and other local venues; more on early Metallica gigs in Valley Stream and North Babylon can be seen, heard and/or read here. This comes through its collaboration with Lou Reed, a native of Freeport, New York. In 2011, Metallica teamed up with Reed to record Lulu, an experimental and polarizing album that fused Reed’s spoken-word, avant-garde style with Metallica’s aggressive sound.

Reportedly, Lulu was inspired by the plays of German expressionist writer Frank Wedekind. The collaboration was born out of a mutual performance at the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts in 2009, where Metallica and Reed performed together and discovered a surprising artistic chemistry.
