Music On Long Island - Venues: N

A look at notable live concert and entertainment venues which are no longer in business

Nakisaki

Undated exterior photo of venue after closing:

Located at 276 Fulton Avenue in Hempstead, New York, Nakisaki reportedly held around 230 patrons amongst its space, which consisted of a catering hall, bar and nightclub. In terms of cuisine, Nakisaki served "Caribbean Chinese Cuisine." It appears to have been founded in Rosedale, Queens in 1985 and then to have opened a second location in Hempstead. Nakisaki is believed to have been the nickname of venue founder Earl Lyn Sr., who had performed with the ska band The Mighty Mystics and passed away in 2009.

Artists who performed at Nakisaki -- which appears to have closed in the early 2010s -- were Nakisaki himself, Freddie McGregor, The Mighty Sparrow, Calypso Rose, Frankie Paul, and Gytian. Video of the venue's 25th anniversary celebration can be seen here. A performance by Nardo Ranks at this venue can be seen here.
