Historic Long Island Record Labels & Studios: Overview

Overview

This guide is part of an ongoing project to document and preserve the rich and diverse history of music on Long Island, New York—focusing specifically on Nassau County and Suffolk County. From independent record labels and recording studios to local venues, musicians, and influential scenes, the guide highlights the people and places that have shaped the region’s musical identity over the decades.

The purpose of this LibGuide is to provide students, researchers, and community members with a reliable and curated starting point for exploring Long Island’s music heritage. Each entry is compiled from authoritative and verifiable sources, including local archives, newspaper collections, academic publications, library holdings, and official artist or label materials. Where available, links to recordings, photographs, and historical documentation are included to support further study.

Because Long Island’s music story is always growing, this guide will be updated regularly to reflect newly uncovered information, contemporary developments, and ongoing scholarship. Future updates may include additional artists, venues, and organizations, as well as oral histories and archival collections that shed light on the evolving cultural landscape of Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

By bringing together these materials in one accessible resource, the Long Island Music History LibGuide seeks to honor the area’s creative legacy while supporting continued research, education, and community engagement in the arts.
