Historic Long Island Record Labels & Studios: Bolognese Studio

Bolognese Recording Studio

Bolognese Recording Studio was a U.S. recording facility located on Long Island, New York—officially in Merrick, though it has sometimes been listed under neighboring Bellmore. Founded by Tommy Mottola and Lou Bolognese, the studio became a creative hub for emerging and established artists during the late 1970s and 1980s. Over time, it developed a strong reputation for its professional sound engineering, local music scene connections, and distinctive Long Island rock influence.

In later years, the studio was renamed Media Recording Studios (also known simply as Media Recording). Under this name, the facility continued to operate in the Long Island area and was eventually taken over in the 1990s by Steve Young. Some reports suggest that the studio later relocated to Babylon, New York, reflecting its ongoing evolution and adaptation within the region’s competitive recording landscape.

Throughout its history, Bolognese/Media Recording attracted a diverse roster of recording artists, including Twisted Sister, Jack Starr, The System, Virgin Steele, Michelle Goulet, Lenny Kaye Connection, and Lefturno. These collaborations helped define the studio’s legacy as an important site for rock, pop, and R&B recordings during a formative era in American music.

For more historical details, see the Discogs entry for Bolognese Studio, which documents its early years and production credits, and the Media Recording listing for later sessions under the new name. The studio’s current operations and contact information can be found on its official website.
