The original Arthur (1981), directed by Steve Gordon and starring Dudley Moore as the charming but perpetually inebriated millionaire Arthur Bach, was partially filmed on Long Island. Among the locations showcased were Nassau County’s Old Bethpage Village and The Knole Estate, as well as Suffolk County’s Caumsett Estate, where Arthur’s romantic visit to Susan’s family estate takes place. In the film, Arthur’s decision to travel to Long Island to propose underscores a key turning point in his life, blending the glamor of his Manhattan existence with the grounded morning-after reckoning in the spacious Gold Coast countryside.

Arthur (2011)

The 2011 remake, starring Russell Brand as Arthur and featuring Jennifer Garner and Helen Mirren, likewise turned to Long Island for its estate scenes. As in the original, the family’s lavish grounds were shot at Old Westbury Gardens in Nassau County -- specifically on the picturesque south lawn behind the historic mansion, where Arthur and Susan’s horseback engagement scene unfolds.
