Pink Floyd’s history with Long Island is particularly epitomized by their groundbreaking concert film Delicate Sound of Thunder, as recorded over four nights at the Nassau Coliseum in August 1988 during the A Momentary Lapse Of Reason tour. Directed by Wayne Isham, the film was meticulously shot using 35 mm cameras and later remastered in 4K from the original negatives. Released in 1989 -- and again in a deluxe version in 2020 -- it captured Pink Floyd at a moment of renewed creative energy, following their massive return to live performance. The visuals and immersive production techniques demonstrated the Coliseum’s capacity to host performances on par with much larger stadiums.
Before that, Nassau Coliseum served as a rare U.S. venue for The Wall performances. From February 24 to 28, 1980, Pink Floyd staged five sold-out shows, complete with their signature wall builds, inflatable props, intricate projections, and staggeringly theatrical set pieces. One of these concerts was professionally recorded -- though never officially released -- which has since circulated among collectors as heavily bootlegged footage. These shows were part of a very limited run; the artistic ambition and theatrical presentation marked a new level in rock performance, merging music and stagecraft like never before.
