Music On Long Island - Venues: V

A look at notable live concert and entertainment venues which are no longer in business

The Vanderbilt

Palmer's Vanderbilt nightclub at 1600 Round Swamp Rd. in Plainview (Dec. 13, 2003). Location became an OTB. #longisland #longislandhistory #longislandconnection

The Vanderbilt was a multi-level concert venue located at 1600 Round Swamp Road in Plainview, New York. The space was acquired by the Morey Organization of Garden City, New York in 1999, which also owned and operated several radio stations, including WLIR (92.7), WDRE (98.5) and WXXP (105.3). Prior to the Morey Organization's ownership of the space, it hosted live music on an infrequent basis. The Vanderbilt eventually became an OTB site in the early 2000s after less than four years of a major local venue.

Among the artists who performed at The Vanderbilt were The Strokes, Third Eye Blind, Patti LaBelle, Maroon 5 (whose singer Adam Levine briefly attended Five Towns College on Long Island), Ween, Backstreet Boys, Moby, Eddie Money (a graduate of Island Trees High School), Fountains Of Wayne, Ritchie Blackmore (a long-time resident of Suffolk County), Chris Cornell, Dee Snider (a native of Baldwin), Bauhaus' Peter Murphy, Glassjaw, They Might Be Giants (including Lynbrook resident Danny Weinkauf), Good Charlotte, Buckcherry, Our Lady Peace, Michelle Branch, Cake, The Cult, Taking Back Sunday (whose members have ties to Baldwin, Long Beach and Rockville Centre), The Moldy Peaches, Patti Smith, The Who's John Entwistle, Superdrag, Phantom Planet, Garbage, Danzig, Foreigner, Saves The Day (whose bassist is a native of Sea Cliff), The Replacements' Paul Westerberg, OK Go, and The Used.

Village Pub South

Exterior photo of Broadway (name of space between Village Pub South and Amityville Music Hall):

Bye-bye Broadway, here comes Amityville Music Hall & Tavern - Newsday

A sister venue to the Village Pub in Port Jefferson Station, the Village Pub South was located at 198 Broadway in Amityville, New York. The venue appeared to have stopped booking national touring acts around 2009. It was reportedly purchased by Sal Mignano from the band The Sleeping who renamed it Broadway. Later on the venue became Amityville Music Hall, which still appears to be booking established talent as of April 2025.

Among the notable artists who performed at the Village Pub South were Hit The Lights, Chiodos, My American Heart, Amber Pacific, The Ataris, As Tall As Lions (Massapequa-based band featuring future GRAMMY winning producer Dan Nigro), Boys Like Girls, Valencia, Circa Survive, Gatsby's American Dream, Bear Vs. Shark, The Wonder Years, Punchline, Alesana, Steel Train (featuring Jack Antonoff), and Spitalfield.
