What is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a federal program run by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) under the direction of the Federal Communications Commisision (FCC) that provides a discount on monthly phone or internet service up to $9.25 for those that are eligible. It can be used for phone or internet depending on the company, but not both.

How do you know if you're eligible?

Your household may be eligible for Lifeline based on a few factors. One factor is if your income is at or below 135% of the federal poverty level (amount varies based on number of people in your household.) Maxiumum eligible incomes according to size of household can be found here.

The following federal assistance programs may also qualify you for Lifeline:

  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Medicaid
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
