Art Museums - Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is one of the largest and most influential museums of modern art in the world. MoMA's collection offers an overview of modern and contemporary art, including works of architecture and design, drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, prints, illustrated books and artist's books, film, and electronic media.

The Freeport Memorial Library offers passes for this museum and they can be reserved here or in the Children’s Room. 

Film Museums - The Museum of the Moving Image - Queens

Museum of the Moving Image 

The Museum of the Moving Image presents exhibitions that further our understanding, enjoyment, and appreciation of the art, history, technique, and technology of film, television, and digital media. The Museum also offers educational and interpretive programs, and collects and preserves moving-image related artifacts. The Museum screens more than 400 films, ranging from the classic to the contemporary, including silent films with live music accompaniment and restored prints from the world's leading archives.

Art Museums - Nassau County Museum of Art

Nassau County Museum of Art

The museum features a number of special exhibitions and has one of the largest sculpture parks in the Northeast. It also has many programs for both adults and children.

The museum is located on William Cullen Bryant Preserve named after William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878). He was an editor of the New York Evening Post, and also a poet, lawyer, conservationist, political activist, and patron of the arts. The Preserve’s 145 acres include an arboretum, nature trails, a native plant garden, and a formal garden.

Art Museums - Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

Started in 1939 as the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was founded with a collection of early modern masterpieces. In 1943, Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to design a building to house this collection; it opened in 1959 and is recognized as one of the most important buildings of Wright’s late career. The unique architecture of the space features a spiral ramp riding to a domed skylight. At the Guggenheim one can experience special exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, lectures, performances and film screenings and classes for teens and adults.

Art Museums - Vanderbilt Museum & Planetarium

Vanderbilt Museum & Planetarium 

The Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium is a waterfront complex that counts among its extensive collections (which total more than 40,000 objects) the mansion, curator’s cottage, a seaplane hangar and boathouse, antique household furnishings, rare decorative and fine art, the archives and photographic record of Vanderbilt’s circumnavigations of the globe, and published books of his travels.

Art Museums - Socrates Sculpture Park

Socrates Sculpture Park

The sculptor Mark di Suvero founded Socrates Sculpture Park in 1986 as a community-engaged and accessible arts space dedicated to supporting artists in the production and presentation of public artworks. On a five-acre waterfront landscape, the park offers topical exhibitions of contemporary public art and programming that engages diverse audiences.
