Metallica’s ties to Long Island run deep, notably immortalized in their first home video Cliff ’Em All -- a tribute to late bassist Cliff Burton and a compelling snapshot of the band’s early raw power. Among the bootleg and concert footage compiled on the video is a stirring rendition of “Master Of Puppets,” filmed live at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale on April 28, 1986, while Metallica was on tour opening for Ozzy Osbourne.
Long before that Coliseum appearance, Metallica also played two smaller, formative venues on the Island. Per archived setlists, they performed at the Rio Theatre in Valley Stream on January 21, 1984, showcasing early classics like “Hit The Lights,” “The Four Horsemen,” and “Ride The Lightning." A year prior, they had performed at Cheers in North Babylon.
