Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, as directed by Michel Gondry, is partially set in Rockville Centre, where Joel (played by Jim Carrey) supposedly lives. But intriguingly, none of the production was actually shot there.

The story’s coastal tension is channeled through real Montauk landmarks. Several wintery beach sequences were filmed right at the actual Montauk train station on Edgemere Street. One of the most memorable first glances between Jim Carrey’s Joel and Kate Winslet’s Clementine takes place in the Plaza Restaurant at 752 Montauk Highway -- now a Southern comfort-style diner -- where Joel spots Clementine’s iconic blue hair across the room.

The beach house that serves as both a refuge and a memory vessel is presented as being in Montauk, but this house is actually Kilkare, nestled in Wainscott at the end of Georgica Association Road. Thanks to Greg "Grog" Zeichner for his contributions to this entry.
