Films, Television & Music Videos Made On Long Island: Joan Jett

A look into Long Island's rich history as a destination for film, TV and music-related projects

Joan Jett

Joan Jett's connection to Long Island is both deep and enduring -- she has lived in Long Beach since the late 1970s after relocating from Los Angeles to work closely with producer Kenny Laguna, also having been reported as living in Rockville Centre. That partnership with Laguna led to the formation of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, with their debut album I Love Rock 'N Roll recorded in summer 1981 in Long Island studios.

The music video for "Change The World" was filmed right on the iconic Long Beach boardwalk, capturing the essence of coastal New York life and featuring local scenery as a backdrop for her signature rock grit.

Similarly, the early-1980s video for her cover of “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)” was shot at Chauncey’s -- and also around other spots on the Long Beach boardwalk -- bringing together live audience shots and glimpses of a classic beachfront amusement vibe.
