Trainwreck, directed and produced by Judd Apatow and written by its star Amy Schumer, carries a special resonance for Long Islanders. Both Schumer and Apatow hail from the area, as Schumer grew up partly in Rockville Centre and Apatow was raised in Syosset before heading off to film school in California. Their shared roots infuse the film with a familiar, lived-in authenticity, evident not just in its characters but in the love letter it pays to stories from home.
A nod to local flavor comes when the movie shifts away from Manhattan’s bustling backdrops and touches down on Long Island itself: part of Trainwreck was filmed at the Plattduetsche Retirement Home in Franklin Square. Additional scenes were captured nearby in Franklin Square along Barrymore Boulevard and even at the Nassau County Correctional Center.
