Fandango visits the Opie & Anthony Show: photos | WWE

Roslyn, New York, a historic village on Long Island’s North Shore, has an indirect but noteworthy connection to the world of professional wrestling through its former resident Anthony Cumia. As co-host of the influential Opie & Anthony series -- first a syndicated FM radio show, then later a SiriusXM staple -- Cumia helped create a platform where numerous wrestling personalities made appearances during the height of the show's popularity.

Among the performers featured on Opie & Anthony over the years were "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, FandangoThe Iron Sheik and Mick Foley. Altogether, the iconic show became known for its irreverent interviews and unscripted access to wrestling's larger-than-life characters. This gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the wrestling world and contributed to the growing crossover between wrestling and mainstream media in the 2000s and early 2010s.

The firing of Anthony Cumia and later Opie "Gregg" Hughes from Opie & Anthony would lead to the ascent of intern-turned-produced-turned-cohost-turned-host Sam Roberts as a broadcast. Roberts regularly interviews WWE and AEW talent on his Notsam Wrestling podcast and currently does broadcasting for special WWE events.
